Jun. 12--The building industry can talk about green construction until it's blue in the face, but for the movement to truly gain momentum it has to be endorsed and practiced enthusiastically by the nation's big-time builders.
With word that the National Association of Home Builders has bestowed upon Stafford County's Celebrate by Del Webb its first-ever green building program Production Home of the Year award, energy-efficient housing takes a big step forward.
Celebrate is an active-adult community located between U.S. 17 and the Rappahannock River. Directly across the river is Central Park. It is a sizable subdivision, with plans for more than 1,450 homes on 251 acres.
According to Craig Collin, director of land development for Pulte Homes of Fairfax, of which Del Webb is a subsidiary, 58 homes have been sold since the first closing in December 2007.
